If you read my review of Audible  then you know I'm kind of on a journey of rediscovering Audible  and all that it has to offer these days. One thing it now offers is a category of books called "Audible Originals". These are books written by world-famous storytellers and produced in Audible's studios. Many of these Audible Originals are included in your monthly subscription plan, and some will cost you 1 credit.  I decided yesterday to listen to one of these Audible Originals yesterday while taking a trip about 90 minutes away from our home. I picked a book that would fit into the drive time there and back. They have a vast selection of these shorter books and this particular one was just a tad over 2 hours...Perfect! So to start this review let me first tell you that I am NOT a "storybook" type of reader. It is a page I have set up here on Blogger.com where I present a chapter for chapter reading of scripture. I hope to present more versions, but currently I am working on the ISR Scriptures 2009 version. This version is very unique in it's use of Hebrew characters, attempts at properly translating words and ideas that do not actually translate into English nor our culture, a stylized approach to Greek and Aramaic processing, and many other features that make it apparent that great research went into the making of this version. I want to start this review with a word of warning! Peter Enns is not a pastor, preacher, evangelist, TBN superstar, or Sunday school theologian. He is a University Professor, bible scholar/theologian. This book may make you stretch. I think "may" is an understatement though. Whether you are mainstream Christian, Messianic Jew, Hebrew Rooter, or fall anywhere else on the "I love the Creator of the universe" spectrum, this book is going to challenge your belief system, and you will laugh about it through your troubled tears. Why? Because that is exactly what Peter Enns does! He will make you experience many different emotions while reading. Peter Enns attempts to help you define how you may currently view the Bible and then show you what it appears to be from a scholarly perspective. He does this in a way that only Peter Enns can do.
