I have also heard that if you cannot change your company, change what you feed your brain. And one more thing along those same lines is that reading biographical material of great people who have done great things is one of the best ways that you can trick your mind into believing you are hangin' with the greats, and at the same time you are feeding your brain information that could rewire YOU for greatness!  I don't know what you have been taught about Andrew Carnegie. I knew very little about him before reading this book. The image I had of him in my mind was not really a positive one, but it also was not an attitude of indifference. I mostly envisioned him as a hard man. What I learned in...

BigDaddyBigz Book Review: The Temple Revealed in the Garden by Dinah Dye

Image
Click or tap the above image to here more samples and view more reviews! *Please visit the BigDaddyBigz Bookshelf !* Dinah Dye of Foundations in Torah has many years of studying Torah and Judaism. She understands so much that most of the Christian church has long forgotten about their roots in the practices that Jesus was a part of in His life on Earth. Do you have a good understanding of who Adam truly was? Do you fully grasp what was going on with Abraham and Isaac on that day on the mountain? Do you understand fully what it means biblically to be a preist or king? What does all of this have to do with those "Jewish festivals"? what does any of it have to do with YOU?  Many questions like these are given answers in this book by Dinah Dye. This book, like the others in this series, are meant to be used as study guides. These books will cause you to stretch yourself, but more importantly, they will cause you to grow! Audiobooks Help You Become Better!

Image
I am a huge proponent of reading, even when it comes to "reading" audiobooks. Though many people today are enamored with video tutorials, movies (often derived from books), and podcasts there is no replacement that even comes close to the thought-out, detailed written and/or spoken word.  There is nothing wrong with the other things listed, but there is something lacking. I love YouTube tutorials. I share one in this post. But reading a book will literally rewire your mind. Read something! Subscribe to Audible. BigDaddyBigz Book Review: The Temple Revealed In Creation: A Portrait Of The Family by Dinah Dye

Image
Tap the image above to hear an excerpt from the book and read more reviews. * Please visit the  BigDaddyBigz Bookshelf !* Without question the most important weapon against the decay of civilization is the family...PERIOD! Yet everywhere you turn you see the family losing ground in society more and more all the time. Why is this? What is happening to cause this? I believe the answer to these questions (and more) lies within the pages of Dinah Dye's book The Temple Revealed In Creation: A Portrait Of The Family . This book is extensive in the information that it delivers.  I remember back when I was a kid in the late 1970's my favorite television show was Quincy M.E. If you remember it you'll recall that Jack Klugman played the part of the Los Angeles County Medical Examiner, and this was my first exposure to forensic science, something that has intrigued me since those days. In the forward of this book Dinah Dye makes reference to her biblical studies being akin to forensic...

BigDaddyBigz Book Review: The Temple Revealed in Noah's Ark by Dinah Dye

Image
Click the abaove image to hear excerpt from the audiobook. * Please visit the  BigDaddyBigz Bookshelf !* Are you ready to move beyond your typical Sunday School lesson of Noah's Ark? Are you ready to go beyond the basics, the cursory understanding that the text of scripture offers? Are you ready for a greater understanding of things that you see throughout scripture that you may only pretend to understand, but really they make no sense to you? (We all have done it, and most of us still do. Myself included.) Dinah Dye draws from many historical and theological resources to bring you this absolutely compelling new book The Temple Revealed in Noah's Ark: From Chaos to Order. You may find this book to be many things, but I believe that EXTENSIVE will be one of the many ways it can be described. When I finished I felt as if I had been showered in incredibly interesting details, biblical history, and perspectives about this event that plays out in the book of Genesis.  The Temple of...

Be Better Today So You Can Serve Better Tomorrow

Image
Everything about the BigDaddyBigz series of blogs is an attempt to help the people around me become better stewards of what The Creator has given us. You are not a finished creation. You were formed in God's image but you were unclothed, immature, and unlearned. He left the finish work up to you. You are unfinished. His desire is that you become more like Him as you refine yourself. Our collective purpose is to love the Creator and love one another. It is imperative that we live for others. We are to care for other people. Jewish tradition teaches that we are to give charity. In their tradition it is recommended that 10% of our income should be given to charitable causes. More is allowed, but they generally set the limit at 20%. There are legitimate reasons for this cap, but I don't feel to share them here. If you are a frequent reader of my book reviews, watcher of my beekeeping videos, listener of my bible reading, or if you keep up with my investment practices you have helpe...

BigDaddyBigz Book Review: Sam Walton Made In America

Image
Check the bottom of the page for how they've spent some of their fortune! Tap image for more reviews on this book. I have not enjoyed a book more than I did this one in a very long time. I am 53 years old at the time I am writing this review so the nostalgia that I experienced reading this book was pure joy. I can remember so much of what is talked about in this book. Granted, I do not remember any of it from any standpoint other than a little boy going to the TG&Y or any number of other stores talked about in this book and seeing all of the marketing ploys these marketers would participate in. As you read this book I am certain those of you who are near my age and older will have many of the same memories. In this aspect alone the book was well worth the read. It has other value though. I cannot tell you just how deeply my attitude towards Wal-mart as a business has shifted. I have a much more positive view of the company. Heck, I may even become a shareholder after reading it...

BigDaddyBigz Book Review: Twelve and a Half by Gary Vaynerchuk

Image
See more reviews on this book by clicking the book cover above! Gary Vaynerchuk Has really knocked this one out of the park. I would love to take this book back to every boss I have ever had. So many business relationships that are struggling could actually flourish if they just would read and employ what Gary presents in this book. Do not look at this book as being a remix of old information that may have been picked up from other books or talks offered on self-development. This ain't that! There is nothing abstract about this book (or any of the others by Gary Vaynerchuk I've read).  If you are an entrepreneur at any level, whether a social influencer just starting out or a fulltime investor with a large company/companies you will get huge returns on your investment of purchasing this book. The activities in the last few chapters alone are phenomenal. Follow my blog and you may recognize when I actually do some of these activities. I believe they are well worth participating...

BigDaddyBigz Book Review: As A Man Thinketh by James Allen

Image
I have read and listened to this book many times over the years. I believe that the message of the book is true. I also realize that it is very difficult for most people to accept the validity of it because of what it may mean for them to accept it as true and accurate.  Because there is no muscular type of effort put forth in forming a thought we inevitably will discount the effectiveness of our mind in using it to shape our world around us. Often times when I have had conversations about the subject matter of this book I have gotten responses from people like "That name-it claim-it stuff doesn't work" or "I'll prove it doesn't work by thinking I'm a duck....see, I'm no duck". This kind of cynicism is actually proving the whole point of this book, and it is missed by the cynic. To think a thought in passing is not the same condition this book, or the true process is referring to. The fact of the matter is that the statement "As a mam thinke...

BigDaddyBigz Book Review: Business Secrets From The Bible by Rabbi Daniel Lapin

Image
I got more out of the forward of this book than the total of the last two books I've read... The same can be said of the last chapter as well... Don't let the title of this book fool you. Even if you are an employee, you need to read this book. It is as much for you as it is the owner of the company you work for. Get it! Read it! And then pass it on. This book will give you a very clear and precise understanding of just what money actually is, and this description may shock you. You do not have to be religious in order for this book to be helpful to you. I am religious but would read this book in a minute even if I wasn't. Even though it is written by a Rabbi there is nothing in the book that remotely insinuates that the methodology is purely religious or is only relevant to religious people. This is not that kind of book. Often  when I am writing these reviews I have to throttle myself a bit to keep from going into full salesman mode because I got so much from the book. Th...

BigDaddyBigz Book Review: Subconscious Mind Secrets: 9 Unheard of Absolutely Amazing Techniques to Recondition Your Subconscious Mind for Success by Stephan Hyang

Image
I have been listening to and reading positive thinking stuff for many years. Why? Because I know I need it. Without it I know that my mind defaults to some pretty gruesome settings. So I always try feed my mind with some very positive stuff.  This short audio book was just what the doctor ordered today. I don't want you to think that this book is going to teach you to think good thoughts or puff you up with a bunch of feel good stuff. No, it is a bit more direct and to the point. It has to be that way since the book is so short. What the writer of this book does for you is so much deeper. The writer actually equips you with tangible things that can be done to rewire you brain so that you rid your mind of the negative tendencies once and for all. It does take a little effort, but all good things take effort.  The audiobook is totally free with your Audible subscription. Get it today and start the process. I can't wait to start mine! BigDaddyBigz Book Review: Giving It All Away.... by David Green with Bill High

Image
Click image to listen to samples of this book. David Green and his family should be in the top 5 of your list "who do I want to emulate". Generosity is one of the greatest attributes we can acquire, is steeped in simplicity of action, yet is the seemingly most difficult thing for the human nature to perform. Why? I believe the answer is found in the pages of this book, but only if you are astute enough to find it. I believe this book is part biographical, part business leadership manual, and part theological. The overarching message is spot-on, even if you don't hold the same religious beliefs as David...heck, it's spot-on even if you hold no religious beliefs at all! In this book you will learn what the Hobby Lobby family values, how they run their company, and how you can create a family structure that will be your greatest legacy. What you will learn, as David Green would say, is how to pass the baton to the next generation. It is better to learn this while young, ...

BigDaddyBigz Book Review: 1000 Dollars & An Idea by Sam Wyly

Tap the image for more reviews and info on book. Quotes from the book: "Many people yearn for the pot of gold at the end of the rainbow, but have no idea how to find a rainbow!"  "You have to love what you do! Earning a living is a distant second to what you do." "Reading is one of the keys to success, because if you won't admit what you don’t know you will never discover what you need to know!" Listen to clips of 1,000 Dollars & an Idea by Sam Wyly, read more reviews, sign up for Audible, and more by clicking here! Sam Wyly, a Louisiana native has an amazing story! I was referred to this book by a friend from church who is on an extended visit from Canada to hear in Louisiana. I am somewhat embarrassed that as a native Louisianan myself, I had to hear about Sam Wyly from someone who lives as far away as Canada. I am so grateful that he did refer me, and I'll explain why. Sam was born in Lake Providence, LA when my dad was 3 years old. My dad w...

BigDaddyBigz Book Review: The Sin of Certainty by Peter Enns

Image
Click the image above for more reviews of this book! **WARNING**This book may hurt your feelings, but I prmise you will not die!** Have you ever read a book and thought that everyone needs to read it? Well, this ain't that book. Or maybe everyone needs to read it....I'm not entirely sure. You see, this book and author really resonate with me. I read, enjoy, and understand where Peter is coming from. Why? Because he speaks to the things I have watched all of my life, asks the same questions I have asked as a result of what I've watched, then gently and thoroughly answers those tough questions. On the other hand, my wife was not able to finish the book. She is my exact opposite. She has neither had the questions, asked the questions, nor has she ever had a problem with anything she has ever seen in the way she has been taught the Bible. Is she wrong? NO! We are simply walking on the same path to the same destination but in different lanes in different locations on the path. T...

If you answered "yes" to any of these questions then I have good news for you. Book Review: Hitler, God, & The Bible by Ray Comfort

Image
Click the image above for to purchase book For most of my life I thought I had a good handle on who Adolph Hitler was and just exactly what he did during his lifetime. I really thought that I knew all I needed to know about this lunatic. My folks grew up during WWII and had told me of the horrors of that time. Little did I know that there was so much more about this man that I just did not know. And if you think you know all there is to know about this man, then I encourage you to read on... In this book Ray Comfort takes you deep inside the life of Adolph Hitler. And if you think you can handle the ride, he will also take you into the very mind and soul of who this diabolical man was. From his childhood to his death, and beyond to modern times and how society may be continuing in the spirit of Hitler.  The information in this book was very enlightening. Ray's writing style is superb. He has an incredible ability to give you tons of information without bogging you down. He is very ...

Book Review: Why We Get Sick by Dr. Benjamin Bikman

Image
Listen to this book on Audible **Dr. Bikman exclaims in his book that all the information in this book is verified and peer reviewed. He sites his sources and you can verify everything by doing your own research.** As someone in their early 50's I have begun to wonder about many things going on in my body. Things like Gout, inability to lose weight, Tenitus, Migraine Headaches, Skin Tags, Sleep Apnea as well as other sleeping problems. These are just the problems that I am aware of without talking to a doctor or having tests run. All of these problems are addressed in the book Why We Get Sick. But these are just a few of the problems mentioned in this book.  I cannot remember, nor will I try to recall all of the problems mentioned in this book, but more than likely you either currently have or have experienced one or more of these issues or know someone who has/does. The book goes into great detail about how each of these chronic problems is established in our bodies. It explains h...

Book Review: Thou Shall Prosper by Rabbi Daniel Lapin

Image
Click the image to see more reviews of this book! Rabbi Daniel Lapin hits a homerun with this book! I cannot express this fact enough!! About 18 months ago I bought the hardcover version of this book, got distracted, put it down and never picked it back up. Then last week I decided to use one of my credits in my  Audible Subscription  to finish up the book by listening to the rest. Am I glad I did!  It seems in my Christian upbringing that I was exposed to two teachings in the church. Teaching number 1 was how BADDDDDD money is and how you should avoid it at all costs (except you must make enough to survive and maybe have a little left over for charity.) The second teaching was all about prosperity through giving to the church and living for God. Do this and you will prosper!  No, I am not jaded or  cynical, and I know there are other Christian approaches to money. The two listed are the most common extremes, and both are severely flawed in my opinion. And altho...

Book Review: The Money Code by H. W. Charles

Image
Tap or click image to read more reviews on this book Right off the bat I need to say that despite my first impression by the title and the book cover, I found this book to not be the cheesy mess I expected it to be. I'm so tired of the name-it-claim-it garbage that has come out of the prosperity gospel crowd that I really was hesitant to buy this book. So, why did I buy it? It was recommended by Audible as being something I may be interested in because I read another book they presumed was similar. Also, it was inexpensive and short (only a bit under 2 hours listening at normal speed). SO, yeah, I figured I would give it a shot. Turns out, I actually found the book very insightful into the possible reasons why my Jewish brothers and sisters are often so financially blessed.  So many times in my christian upbringing I was warned about the evils of wealth and that I must avoid the pitfalls of trying to acquire wealth. Well, let me just tell you this, The Money Code lays all of that m...

Book Review: The Lost World of Genesis One Ancient Cosmology and the Origins Debate by John H Walton

Image
I just finished this book moments prior to writing this review. I really don't want to take the time to let it digest before writing, because I want to give my first impression review on this one.  Let me start by saying, had I read this book 5 years ago it would have completely wrecked my theology. At that time my understanding of the Bible was very "cursory" to put it mildly. I understood the Bible in terms of absolutes (and it is), but the words on the page are only lid to a very deep rabbit hole of truths. This book requires you to place what you know on the shelf temporarily. My pastor likes to tell us that right before he disturbs our peace LOL. Don't worry, this book is not disturbing, but it may be very revealing to you in many ways. Because of this book I can now answer, and I think you will be able to also, the following questions: Is Genesis chapter 1 history? Is Genesis chapter 1 science? Is Genesis chapter 1 a metaphor? Is Genesis chapter 1 literal? ...
